Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that prevents the oxidation of lipids. Since cell membranes are composed of lipids, it effectively prevents the cells; protective coatings from becoming rancid as a result and assault of free radicals. Vitamin E also improves oxygen utilization, enhances immune response, plays a role in the prevention of cataracts (see Lutein, Squalamine and OPC-165™) caused by free-radical damage, and may reduce the risk of coronary artery disease. New evidence suggests that zinc is needed to maintain normal blood concentrations of vitamin E. Selenium enhances vitamin E uptake. These two nutritients should be taken together.
