The study of living blood is actually one of the oldest forms of microscopy, dating back to the invention of the microscope in the 1600's. It is often referred to as Unchanged Blood Examination, Nutritional Microscopy and the name we prefer, Vital Hematology.
Most clinicians and biology students are familiar with "standard" blood microscopy techniques wherein the blood is stained and fixed. This staining technique allows transparent specimens (like blood) that would be difficult to see with "normal methods" (brightfield microscopy) to be seen and studied. Unfortunately, this staining alters the cell form and kills the blood cells.
In the video image (below) is a sample of a client's blood on their first visit. The image is magnified approximately 1500X and the image has been time compressed from 2 minutes to 20 seconds.
Note that there are two white blood cells that have been "activated" by the presence of bacteria. Notice the moving granules in the cells. Abnormalities in any of these granules and cells indicate specific disorders. The blood and plasma also shows the presence of candidiasis (the white marble like substances), cysts (probably from the water supply) and fungal forms. Ideal blood cells would be separated but notice that these are "stuck" together. This patient had a B12 deficiency and had a lowered energy level and a compromised immune system.
With the correct nutritional protocol this client showed a marked improvement in less than 30 days.
By examining living blood, we can see certain things that staining would hide. Conversely, there are things we cannot see as readily that staining would enhance. Neither is necessarily better, just different.
We use this technique in our clinic to observe certain deficiencies and risk factors in the blood that can be corrected nutritionally. We can see, for example, the effect of free radical damage on the red blood cells.
Free radicals themselves cannot be seen since a free radical is a molecular situation, but the damage done can be seen. The easiest way to describe it is by imagining the effect of oxidation (rust) on a metal surface. Much the same thing happens in the body when the ability of our system to "sweep up" these oxidants becomes impaired. As we age or the internal environmental balance is upset, damage to one or more of our systems becomes apparent in the blood and plasma.
There is much controversy about the efficacy of Vital Hematology since it is relatively unknown among Medical Doctors who receive very little (if any) training in nutrition. As a result, there is a tendency to dismiss it as ineffective. Simply because we don't understand something does not mean it doesn't exist. We use a lighting technique in the clinic called phase contrast. This lighting method was invented in 1932 by Fritz Zernicke who received the Nobel Prize for its invention. It allows us to see the unstained unchanged living blood of an individual under the microscope and observe specific situations in the blood and plasma. We can then recommend definite natural protocols to enhance the body's internal healing miracle.
The second still photograph, shows the same client with healthy normal red blood cells after our client went on the Life Sources' protocol of Daily Health™ Formula, OPC-165's, and Forever Young. (We did recommend an additional protocol for the C-Albicans).
While Vital Hematology is not a diagnostic technique, it is extremely useful in guiding the individual client to a healthier lifestyle through nutritional supplementation and lifestyle enhancing changes.
