Psoriasis is an uncomfortable and sometimes very embarrassing skin condition in that patches appear as silvery scales or red areas on the legs, knees, arms, elbows, scalp, ears and back. Even toes and fingernails can lose their luster and develop ridges and pits. This condition is linked to a rapid growth of cells in the skin's outer layer. These growths on the epidermis never mature. Usually a normal skin cell matures and passes from the bottom layer of the skin to the epidermis in about twenty-eight days; psoriatic cells form in about eight days, causing scaly patches that spread to cover larger and larger areas. The flare-ups can occur most commonly beginning between the ages of fifteen and twenty-five. Attacks can be triggered by nervous tension, stress, illness, injury, surgery, viral or bacterial infections, overuse of drugs or alcohol, and a host of many other pharmaceuticals.

The underlying cause of this condition is not yet known, but may result from a faulty utilization of fats which can be corrected with enzymes as contained in Life Sources' Daily Health® Formula. Current research points to an immune system dysfunction in psoriasis. Life Sources' Alpha Factor rebuilds epithelial tissue plus boosts the immune system. OPC-165™ not only fight free radical damage but restore collagen. Squalamine, nature's richest source of Alkyglycerols, is effective as an important co-factor in healing psoriasis. Phase 1 clinical trials are now being conducted at several Universities. This important molecule is found in significant amounts in human breast milk as well as in the liver, spleen, bone marrow, lymphatic tissues and blood - all of which play a role in the immune system.

Because the buildup of toxins (often due to pharmaceutical usage) in an unhealthy colon has also been linked to the development of psoriasis, it is important to remember to get plenty of dietary fiber.
